Рак пищевода занимает шестое место в структуре смертности среди злокачественных опухолей в мире и относится к одной из наиболее агрессивных локализации рака [26]. По сообщениям IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) на 2008 г. заболеваемость была 49,2 на 100 тыс. населения, смертность - 34,3 на 100 тыс., и среди всех онкологических заболевании рак пищевода занимает 9 место в мире. Высокая заболеваемость раком пищевода отмечена в северных районах Китая, Ирана, Монголии, а среди стран СНГ - в Казахстане и Киргизии [11]. Также сохраняется высокая частота рака в некоторых странах Европы - Франции (провинция Бретань), Швейцарии, Финляндии. По сообщениям [7, 9, 14] рак пищевода в России занимает 14 место с удельным весом 2-5, в структуре онкологической патологии составляет 6,7 на 100 тыс. населения. Заболеваемость раком пищевода в Казахстане сохраняется на высоком уровне, составляя 7,7 на 100 тыс. населения, что в 1,2 раза больше, чем в Российской Федерации. Несмотря на то, что в РФ проживает населения в 10 раз больше, чем в Казахстане. Смертность от этой патологии в Казахстане занимает 4 место, составляя 5,8%. Заболеваемость раком пищевода в Карагандинской области равна 8,8 на 100 тыс. населения, что 1,3 выше, чем в Республике.

Esophageal cancer ranks sixth in the structure of mortality among malignant tumors in the world and belongs to one of the most aggressive localizations of cancer. According to the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) in 2008 the incidence was 49.2 per 100 thousand population, mortality - 34.3 per 100 thousand and is the 9th largest in the world among all cancers. A high incidence of esophageal cancer was noted in the northern regions of China, Iran, Mongolia, and among the CIS countries - Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. There is also a high incidence of cancer in some European countries - France (the province of Brittany), Switzerland, Finland. Esophageal cancer in Russia ranks 14th with a specific gravity of 2-5, in the structure of oncological pathology is 6.7 per 1000 thousand of the population. The incidence of esophageal cancer in Kazakhstan remains at a high level, amounting to 7.7 per 100 thousand people, which is 1.2 times more than in the Russian Federation. Despite the fact that the population of the Russian Federation is 10 times more than in Kazakhstan. The mortality rate from this pathology in Kazakhstan ranks 4-th, accounting for 5.8%. The incidence of esophageal cancer in the Karaganda region is 8.8 per 100,000 population, 1.3 times higher than in the Republic.
